Name: Big Shooter (from the anime Koutetsu Jeeg)
Length: Unknown. The Bigshooter always change his dimensions during the anime. I found a Settei (original drawings) in which the Bigshooter has the same dimension of Jeeg and I think that this is the correct dimension (11 meters).

Pilot: Miwa Uzuki.
Activation: The Bigshooter is composed of three parts. A blue central part and two white-yellow cannon beside che central part. The parts are joined by a magnetic field that can be turned off when the pilot wants.
Driving system: The bigshooter it's simply a big plane driven using a particular two-handed cloche.
Material: Steel. I'm sure because the Bigshooter and Jeeg have been build in the same project and time.
Weapons: Different type of missiles. They are launched from the black areas on the front of the central part of the ship. I have modeled two types of missiles because the shape of the missiles is changed during the episodes
Vehicles: ---
Friends: The same friends of Jeeg (read the Jeeg page)
Enemies: The same enemies of Jeeg (read the Jeeg page)

Notes: The Bigshooter is the airplane that contain all the parts of Jeeg body except the head. It contains also the marine parts, sky parts, all the weapons etc.
Nobody knows the dimensions of the Bigshooter, sometimes is big like a robot, sometimes little like a robot's hand. I'm very lucky because I have a book with all the original drawings for the Steel Jeeg series. In this book there is a little drawing in which I can see that Bigshooter is long as the height of Jeeg, finally a mystery is solved! :-)

Technical notes

Techniques: The model it's very simple. It's composed of geometric primitives like cylinders and lofted curves.
What lacks: Afterburner, I want to use hypervoxel to simulate realistic afterburner fire.
I have to work on textures. I want the Bigshooter to be like a real jet airplane, like an F15.
I want to learn more about particle systems and hypervoxels so I can use them to create smoke, afterburner and so on.
The central part should be more rounded.

My biggest problems: The biggest problem was to find a way to create the afterburner in a simple way.
At the end I used a simple elongated ball and a texture of a bitmap (black to white) for transparency effect, then I turned on the glow effect.

Blueprints of the Big Shooter
In this zip file there are some images of the Bigshooter I made.
Use them in the background of the viewports of the 3d package you use.

Your Big Shooters

Aurelio D'Angelo
These are some Bigshooters made by other artists. If you want to model your Bigshooter use the zip file above and model it. I want to see your work so send me a picture of your plane when you finish it.

Fog
This picture seems quite simple but I use lots of little tricks to tune it up. For example:
The sky it's not mine, it comes from the wonderful skies made by Eki Halkka.
I overlay two different renders to simulate fog in photoshop.
There aren't lights in the scene except for the lensflare, I use radiosity without tolerance.
Experiment (updated 18/05/03)
This is just a test about how to mix computer graphics and real photographs.
The Bigshooter is coming, Jeeg resist!
Background is a Terragen rendering. Diffused light is done with Photoshop. The ship is not finished, I'm still working on its textures.
The Bigshooter is coming, Jeeg resist! Version 2
Note:This time I used a new Terragen rendering to achieve a more realistic result. Bigshooter is not ready yet. I'll try a new render when I finish it.
